Your diagnostic trouble codes significantly reduce your engine’s toxic emissions and pollutants. Keeping it in working order means cleaner air and a better running vehicle.

Orem High Flow Catalytic Converter

One of the most important components of your exhaust system is the catalytic converter. We’ve all heard of it, many of us have had to replace one, but many people have no idea what it does. Put simply, the catalytic converter, commonly called a cat, converts some of the more dangerous substances in your engine exhaust into safer emissions.

The process uses a catalyst to initiate a chemical reaction in the combustion emissions. Most models used today are called three-way converters because they convert the three most abundant pollutants into less toxic substances. Carbon Monoxide and excess Hydrocarbons are oxidized to create carbon dioxide and water, and nitrogen oxides undergo a reduction reaction to produce nitrogen.

A High Flow performance Catalytic Converter can increase the overall performance of your vehicle by performing the same task as your conventional Catalytic Converter but faster.

Catalytic Converter Repair and Maintenance

Although catalytic converters can last for 10 years or more, they can easily become contaminated, clogged, overheated, or damaged. It can be difficult to know when your catalytic converter is having one or more of these issues. Some of the warning signs and symptoms of catalytic converter damage include:

  • Dark exhaust smoke
  • Decreased engine performance
  • Reduced acceleration
  • Sulfuric exhaust odor
  • High heat under the vehicle

If you are experiencing any of these issues, have your car inspected by a Master Muffler maintenance technician. We are experts in catalytic converter repair in Orem.

Master Muffler is a full-service auto repair shop with well-trained technicians ready to diagnose and repair any problems your car may develop. Any time your check engine light comes on, you should have your car checked immediately. A malfunctioning catalytic converter will not only result in more noxious emissions, but it can adversely impact your engine efficiency and in some cases lead to dangerous operating conditions. Additionally, it may be an early indication that something else is wrong. Stop by our Orem location for diagnosis and your catalytic converter price.

How do Catalytic Converters Work?

catalytic converter

A catalytic converter reduces the amount of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides that your car emits. These chemicals are created as part of the engine’s combustion process and can be very dangerous to humans and the environment.

Catalytic converters use a catalyst to initiate a chemical reaction that turn these harmful chemicals into harmless ones. The catalyst is a ceramic structure that is coated with platinum, rhodium, or palladium. As the exhaust gases flow into this structure, the metal reacts with the chemicals, creating the less toxic wastes of carbon dioxide, water, and nitrogen, which are expelled out of the car.
